I watched the Bessie Smith movie last night. It was sad. Really, really sad. She had a horrible life. And when she got famous, people mostly sought her out for their own financial gain.😞Not only that, I noticed that the women’s suffrage movement brought a lot of women who truly felt comfortable enough to be lesbians as well. However, I felt that some paid the ultimate price for that. Ma Rainey died early. And, unfortunately, Bessie Smith. You see, both women are considered a « double minority ». #1: Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey were considered « black ». #2: both women were lesbians. Suspiciously, both women died like 4 years apart. I will share the obituary links in a moment. Even the reasons behind their deaths were suspicious to me. Ultimately, I feel like their deaths were because they were in a group as « black » and lesbian. Bessie Smith’s death was « obvious ». Two white people caused a fatal wreck. « Somehow », there was a white doctor who happened to be in the area of a famous person of color’s demise. « Somehow » no person of color was able to come to her aid to quickly help her with her wounds and profuse bleeding. then, over 30 years later, that very same doctor went on record to tell « his truth ». Bessie Smith’s death in « M.Y. O.P.I.N.I.O.N. was a « cover-up ». The rumors were true. In fact, back then a lot of rumors were true. Bessie’s death was one of them. Another one was the fact that one of our U.S. presidents in the 1960s and shit was gay, too. I think it was President Johnson or something. And, I think Bessie was murdered, because she was openly a lesbian and considered « black ». I
