One thing that I noticed in the United States is that when an important movement happens, it only lasts for a little while. Then, everybody is « shut up » somehow. If they are not killed, they end up « secretly » investigated, you know, like someone « planted » in their movement. Then, they get killed, beat up, or whatever. Then, if they live, they get ostracized for something. People/authorities start looking into their financial business, etc. Kind of like they want you to be funky ass broke or something. It’s sad, man. The whole shabang. I like the Bessie Smith movie. It was excellent. In my mind, « the great depression » intentionally ended « women’s suffrage » and a woman’s right to go ahead and be a lesbian if she wanted to be. Poverty/extreme suffering/financial loss, etc., always kills movements. Always. Hopefully Queen Latifah will play Pearl Bailey in a biopic, because Queen Latifah and Pearl Bailey are « twinsies »!
