Siddis: In It For The Long Run | Unique Stories from India

The African community that is India's hope for an Olympic medal. The Siddis are a community that migrated from East Africa to India between the 15th and 19th century. In 1987, the Sports Authority of India set up the Special Area Games program to scout and train members of the Siddi community to perform as athletes for India on the international stage. Despite the glory they have brought to the nation, the Siddis have to battle racism on a daily basis, often being treated as outsiders in the country that they have given their everything for. The Siddis have now settled primarily in the states of Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. They came as merchants, sailors, slaves, and mercenaries, going on to even become rulers. Today, they are India's hope for an Olympic medal in Track and Field. 101 Traces is an ongoing effort to bring to the limelight stories from dwindling or forgotten communities that are a part of the melting pot that is India's cultural landscape. The Model Who Was Murdered For Being Too Beautiful....

Stay tuned for the true crime story about Raudha Athif, who went missing in a foreign land and whose case is still unsolved! Subscribe to Euphobia for more crime news. Our story begins in the Maldives, a small island nation in the Indian Ocean. Raudha was born on May 18, 1996, to her parents Mohamed Ahtif and Aminath Muharrimath. As she grew up, her natural features and good looks began to get attention from everyone around her. In addition to having a warm smile and a strong jawline, she had shimmering blue eyes that set her apart and made the world stop to look at her. When she was 17, a photo of her went viral that was appropriately called “Maldivian Girl with the Blue Eyes.” I don’t know about you, but I actually remember seeing this photo on Twitter when it first dropped. It’s truly an image that will make you stop scrolling to absorb her hypnotic beauty. After this image began to garner attention, she started receiving requests from modeling agencies, and from there, her life was never the same. But her passions didn’t end at modeling. While she enjoyed this work, she wanted to be known for more than just her looks. She had a passion for helping people and excelled at science. So she put two and two together and decided she would strive to become a doctor. After high school, she received a scholarship to study medicine at Islami Bank Medical College in Bangladesh, where she would spend her first two years of school. At the time of her murder, she had actually planned to transfer to a college in Australia to finish up her degree and be closer to her family who had also moved over there. During this period, she was so focused on her studies and becoming an excellent student that she had turned away from the modeling world. That is until she was presented with an opportunity she could not refuse. In October of 2016, she appeared on the cover of Vogue India—which is huge! She appeared with six other girls from the Indian subcontinent for the magazine’s 9th-anniversary special edition. In an eventual tribute to Raudha put out by the magazine, the beauty editor described how tracking her down was not easy and it required her to resort to reaching out through Facebook. She quickly learned that modeling was second place in Raudha’s life and that she would not do the shoot if it interfered with her studies—which it didn’t, but damn that’s dedication to academia. The Black Madonna of Poland

The shrine of Czestochowa is found in the heart of Poland. A highlight of Marian devotion, it attracts four to five million pilgrims each year from 80 countries worldwide. The icon of the Black Madonna and Child goes back to medieval tradition. According to historians, the painting follows the model of Byzantine iconography: it is an "Odigitria" icon, that is to say, the image of "one that points out and guides all along the path". A legend attributes the creation of this painting to St. Luke, who was a contemporary of Mary, and so could reproduce her true image. In 1382 the icon was brought to the hill of Jasna Gora, which means "Bright Mountain" in Polish and overlooks Czestochowa. At Prince Władysław of Opole's initiative, a hilltop monastery was built for the Pauline monks. The Child's face is turned towards the pilgrim. But Her gaze is elsewhere, as if looking into the distance, beyond time and space. Both the Mother and the Son seemed immersed in thought, yielding an aura of wisdom. The brown color of their skin contrasts with the bright surroundings. Mary shows the Child Jesus to the pilgrim, and the Christ Child holds a book in one hand, and with the other gives a simple yet noble gesture of blessing. In every moment of difficulty of Poland, the population has huddled around the Black Madonna of Czestochowa and the child Jesus, this merely increases the influx of pilgrims. Even today, tens of thousands of people walk to the shrine each summer. The image is dark .. made even darker by the smoke of candles that continuously burn before the icon. Karol Wojtyla himself visited frequently as a pilgrimage to the shrine, especially in 1936, along with many other university students who pledged to build a new Poland with the help of the Virgin. Prayer: "Our Lady of Czestochowa, Mother of God and our Mother, pray for us. Our Lady of Czestochowa, Mother of those who place their hope in Divine Providence, pray for us. Our Lady of Czestochowa, Mother of those who are deceived, pray for us. Our Lady of Czestochowa, Mother of those who are betrayed, pray for us. Our Lady of Czestochowa, Mother of those who are imprisoned, pray for us. Our Lady of Czestochowa, Mother of those who suffer from cold, pray for us. Our Lady of Czestochowa, Mother of those who are afraid, pray for us. Our Lady of Czestochowa, Poland Mother of the suffering, pray for us. Our Lady of Czestochowa, Poland Mother of the faithful, pray for us. Pray for us, Our Lady of Czestochowa, That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ." https://ift.tt/jhzOP1Q

Africa in the Bible: The Myth of a Cursed Race (Part 1) | A Day of Discovery Legacy Series

For centuries, an ancient curse was used to support the terrible evils of slavery. It’s a curse that appears in one isolated verse in the Bible. Even today, this misunderstood curse still lingers with us as a legacy of shame. Fortunately, through tracing history and honest examination, researchers have exposed the lie of a cursed race. Another concern for African descendants is that Christianity is a white man’s religion, and that they should be looking elsewhere for faith. You may be surprised what a journey back before the days of slavery reveals about the faith of the African forefathers. In fact, it goes back to the very first followers of Jesus. Many people who are descendants of slaves have returned to the continent of Africa in search of their historical and spiritual roots. But most aren’t aware of a long lost Christian heritage and identity in Africa and in the Bible. Until now. Africa and the Bible seeks to expose the myths and bring light to some of the questions we ask. You’ll discover the spiritual heritage and identity of people of African descent through this 3-part program from Day of Discovery.
